A small light-brown one with two stripes is the indoor species, and one in daylight suggests the harbourages are already full.

Which it is decides the work. An outdoor roach is a perimeter and sealing problem. An indoor one is a population that has to be baited out over weeks.

What the visit involves

Inside, the voids around the sink and toilet plumbing, the gap behind the vanity, and any point a pipe crosses a wall.

Outside, the things that put outdoor roaches at the door: irrigation and valve boxes, drains, leaf litter and damp ground against the wall.

Common questions

Can they come up the drain? They travel through drain lines and floor voids and can appear at an unused drain. A trap that has dried out is an open pipe.

Just one — is that a problem? For an outdoor species, often not. For the indoor kind, one seen in daylight is rarely one.

Should I pour bleach down the drain? It does not solve either version and can damage the plumbing. The route matters more than the drain.
