I woke up with bites in a line
Bites that appear overnight, in a row or a small cluster on skin that was uncovered, are the pattern people associate with bed bugs. Bites alone never prove it — reactions vary enormously and several things cause the same marks.

Why it will not stop on its own
Find the evidence, not the bite. Dark specks along a mattress seam or a frame joint, pale shed skins, and rust-coloured smears on the sheet are what settles it. Bites are the least reliable part.
Reactions differ. Two people in the same bed can be bitten equally and only one shows marks, which is why a partner without bites proves nothing.
Do not spray the bed. Repellent products scatter bed bugs into wall voids and, in a shared building, toward the neighbours. That turns one room into several.
What the visit involves
An inspection of the sleeping area first — seams, tags, frame joints, headboard, the perimeter of the room — then anywhere else people sit still for long periods.
If it is confirmed, the method is chosen and a preparation list is given. The preparation is most of the work, and treatment without it usually fails.
If it is not bed bugs, the inspection says what it is instead, and that changes the whole job.
What to say when you call
- Where on the body, and whether it is always overnight
- Whether you have found specks, skins or smears on the bedding
- Whether there are pets in the home
- Whether the home shares walls
Common questions
Could it be fleas? Fleas usually bite around the ankles and lower legs because they jump from floor level. That difference is worth mentioning on the phone.
I have no marks but my partner does. Are we clear? No. Reactions vary and some people show nothing at all.
Should I sleep somewhere else? Moving to another room commonly moves the problem with you. Worth asking before you do.
